00:00:39 --> 00:00:43 video for my podcasts, but I really I stopped
00:00:43 --> 00:00:45 doing them, especially after my editor stopped
00:00:45 --> 00:00:48 editing video because I didn't want to be in
00:00:48 --> 00:00:51 a position where I was editing. But I recently
00:00:51 --> 00:00:55 added a video back into the mix for at least
00:00:55 --> 00:00:58 one of my shows, maybe this one in the near future.
00:00:59 --> 00:01:05 And I have used an old standby to make it as
00:01:05 --> 00:01:10 easy as possible. So. How do you approach video?
00:01:11 --> 00:01:17 Is there a great tool to help you without adding
00:01:17 --> 00:01:21 too much more to your workflow? Yes, that tool

00:01:47 --> 00:01:50 here, right, is recording video is hard. It adds
00:01:50 --> 00:01:54 an entirely different layer to your show. You're
00:01:54 --> 00:01:57 going to have to now edit two things. You might
00:01:57 --> 00:02:00 have to change the format if you don't just want
00:02:00 --> 00:02:05 like a boring talking head video. And you need
00:02:05 --> 00:02:09 to consider the content differently, right? Are
00:02:09 --> 00:02:12 you going to reference stuff in the video that
00:02:12 --> 00:02:17 would degrade the audio, for example? Well, there
00:02:17 --> 00:02:20 are a few ways to approach that. The content
00:02:20 --> 00:02:24 design, I would say, have visual elements, don't
00:02:24 --> 00:02:28 directly reference them. I think there is nothing
00:02:28 --> 00:02:31 clumsier than saying, if you're watching the
00:02:31 --> 00:02:34 YouTube video, you can see this, and if not,
00:02:34 --> 00:02:37 I'm going to describe it for you. And this has
00:02:37 --> 00:02:40 been the thing that most big podcasts do, including
00:02:40 --> 00:02:42 podcasts I love. Cal Newport's Deep Questions,
00:02:43 --> 00:02:46 the Lonely Island Seth Meyers podcast, Talking
00:02:46 --> 00:02:49 Yanks. All of them do that move, and I don't
00:02:49 --> 00:02:52 think it's very good. Instead, I think you should
00:02:52 --> 00:02:58 keep it platform agnostic. and use Ecamm. Why
00:02:58 --> 00:03:01 should you use Ecamm? Well, there are a few reasons.
00:03:01 --> 00:03:05 First of all, it gives you isolated tracks. These
00:03:05 --> 00:03:08 are called ISOs. And so if you have multiple
00:03:08 --> 00:03:10 mic inputs or multiple audio inputs, you're going
00:03:10 --> 00:03:12 to get those separately. If you have multiple
00:03:12 --> 00:03:16 camera inputs, you're going to get those separately.
00:03:16 --> 00:03:19 And you're going to get the combined production
00:03:19 --> 00:03:24 recording, which means If you want to do something
00:03:24 --> 00:03:28 different, you can kind of do it in the actual
00:03:28 --> 00:03:31 recording, right? If you want to have two different
00:03:31 --> 00:03:34 takes without having to stop recording, you can
00:03:34 --> 00:03:36 do a take for video and take for audio. This
00:03:36 --> 00:03:40 is going to increase your editing effort, but
00:03:40 --> 00:03:45 it does not increase your recording effort. The
00:03:45 --> 00:03:46 other really nice thing about this is because
00:03:46 --> 00:03:50 you get the audio isolated track. You can just
00:03:50 --> 00:03:53 take that and export that and process it however
00:03:53 --> 00:03:55 you want to process it or send it off to your
00:03:55 --> 00:03:57 editor if you have an editor and you don't have
00:03:57 --> 00:03:59 to worry about ripping it out of the video or
00:03:59 --> 00:04:02 sending the video file. Or you can do what I
00:04:02 --> 00:04:07 do, right, which is use an app called Gling to
00:04:07 --> 00:04:09 edit both the video and the audio at the same
00:04:09 --> 00:04:14 time and then process the audio separately. I
00:04:14 --> 00:04:17 use Logic Pro for that because I have some filters
00:04:17 --> 00:04:23 that I really like. And so recording in Ecamm
00:04:23 --> 00:04:25 gives you lots of different options. But the
00:04:25 --> 00:04:28 other reason I really like Ecamm, and you can
00:04:28 --> 00:04:31 see this in a recent episode of the Friday Wrap
00:04:31 --> 00:04:33 Up, which is an episode I do on Fridays on the
00:04:33 --> 00:04:37 Streamline Solarpreneur, I am recording and producing
00:04:37 --> 00:04:39 this episode all at the same time. You'll see
00:04:39 --> 00:04:42 there's a little bar across the bottom. The Friday
00:04:42 --> 00:04:44 Wrap Up is basically like something that's on
00:04:44 --> 00:04:48 my mind. recommended reading, recommended media,
00:04:48 --> 00:04:51 and I'm out. And I like highlighting each of
00:04:51 --> 00:04:54 those. This adds a little visual element that
00:04:54 --> 00:04:59 I don't need to reference in the audio. But it
00:04:59 --> 00:05:04 makes the video experience a little bit better
00:05:04 --> 00:05:08 for people who decide to watch the video. And
00:05:08 --> 00:05:12 I can do all of that in Ecamm. So I have scene
00:05:12 --> 00:05:16 set up. I can switch the scenes using my stream
00:05:16 --> 00:05:19 deck. I am adding extra elements to the video
00:05:19 --> 00:05:22 that I'm not explicitly calling out in the audio,
00:05:22 --> 00:05:25 which means I only need to record and edit and
00:05:25 --> 00:05:30 export once and distribute it everywhere. So
00:05:30 --> 00:05:35 if you are considering adding video, and this
00:05:35 --> 00:05:37 is the other thing, right? You can record the
00:05:37 --> 00:05:39 video and not release it. I've done that with
00:05:39 --> 00:05:42 the Streamline Solopreneur. I'm doing that with
00:05:42 --> 00:05:47 this show. I record the video, but I don't release
00:05:47 --> 00:05:50 it because I don't know what value it adds or
00:05:50 --> 00:05:53 if it's really worth the effort right now. But
00:05:53 --> 00:05:57 having those videos means that if you decide
00:05:57 --> 00:06:00 to add later, it's already part of your process.
00:06:01 --> 00:06:05 And again, with Ecamm, you can record all of
00:06:05 --> 00:06:09 the assets and just grab the recorded audio and
00:06:09 --> 00:06:14 do nothing with the video for now. So Ecamm is

00:06:47 --> 00:06:51 means that you can create and frame clips of
00:06:51 --> 00:06:54 your podcast without having to throw it into
00:06:54 --> 00:06:58 something like Opus Clip and hope it frames everything
00:06:58 --> 00:07:01 correctly and hope it grabs something correctly.
00:07:01 --> 00:07:05 You get the vertical video recording and then
00:07:05 --> 00:07:09 you can chop it up without having to rely on
00:07:09 --> 00:07:18 the whims of an AI algorithm. So, Ecamm fantastic
