First, a confession: I miscounted which episode I left off on before a week of travel, so this one is late and recorded in a hotel room in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where I'm speaking at Creator Camp. 00:01:49 --> 00:01:52 going to be that different. What will always
00:01:52 --> 00:01:55 be the same? And then I want to talk about dynamic
00:01:55 --> 00:02:00 ads, YouTube, and smaller shows and if they work
00:02:00 --> 00:02:03 or not. So let's start with the big one, which
00:02:03 --> 00:02:06 is the future of podcasting is not that different
00:02:06 --> 00:02:09 from what it looks like today. And I say that
00:02:09 --> 00:02:15 because it's really not that different from podcasting's
00:02:15 --> 00:02:20 past. Yes, a lot has changed, but the important
00:02:20 --> 00:02:25 parts of podcasting remain. Are you serving an
00:02:25 --> 00:02:28 audience? Are you making it as easy as possible
00:02:28 --> 00:02:32 for them to consume your show? And when you do
00:02:32 --> 00:02:35 those two things, you have a podcast, right?
00:02:35 --> 00:02:38 There's been debate over, is a YouTube only show
00:02:38 --> 00:02:42 a podcast? Or is what Pete Davidson has a podcast?
00:02:42 --> 00:02:45 And I would say no to Pete Davidson's show especially.
00:02:45 --> 00:02:47 Like, that's just a show. I don't even know if
00:02:47 --> 00:02:49 it's still happening anymore. I heard nothing
00:02:49 --> 00:02:53 about it. But if you... Make your show available
00:02:53 --> 00:02:57 on multiple platforms and it is consumable through
00:02:57 --> 00:03:01 podcasting apps Where I think YouTube music can
00:03:01 --> 00:03:04 be considered one now You know, I would say you
00:03:04 --> 00:03:07 have a podcast some people will say an RSS feed
00:03:07 --> 00:03:11 is required I would say it's more nuanced than
00:03:11 --> 00:03:15 that I think we strive to get everybody who says
00:03:15 --> 00:03:19 they have a podcast to have an RSS feed But I
00:03:19 --> 00:03:22 would not immediately tell somebody that they
00:03:22 --> 00:03:24 don't have a podcast because they don't have
00:03:24 --> 00:03:28 an RSS feed. And so really, I want this opening
00:03:28 --> 00:03:34 salvo to be that instead of worrying, if you've
00:03:34 --> 00:03:37 listened to these last 24 episodes and you started
00:03:37 --> 00:03:40 to worry, what if I start a podcast and things
00:03:40 --> 00:03:42 dramatically change? What if it gets harder?
00:03:43 --> 00:03:46 Don't worry about that. It's not going to be
00:03:46 --> 00:03:51 that different. You should focus on serving your
00:03:51 --> 00:03:55 audience and making it as easy as possible to
00:03:55 --> 00:04:01 listen wherever they want. So that is the goal
00:04:01 --> 00:04:05 of a podcast. As far as like the actual technology,
00:04:06 --> 00:04:10 you know, I'm sure things will change. More podcasts
00:04:10 --> 00:04:15 are going to video. Doing video has gotten easier.
00:04:15 --> 00:04:18 I trust that's going to be even more true in
00:04:18 --> 00:04:21 the future. I mean, I'm recording this podcast
00:04:21 --> 00:04:27 episode from a hotel room with one of the mics
00:04:27 --> 00:04:29 that I recommended in a previous episode for
00:04:29 --> 00:04:34 gear. And I think that, you know, technology
00:04:34 --> 00:04:37 will change and things will get better, but it's
